Human Hearing Characteristics

1. The most sensitive frequency of human hearing is 4 kHz.

2. If the volume of sound is large, the high frequency sounds higher and the low frequency sounds lower; therefore, the larger the volume of sound, the easier to know the difference in sound.

3. The maximum audible level of human hearing is 120 dB.

4. The masking effect is the reason why some musical instrument sounds are not heard in the orchestra. If multiple instruments are played simultaneously, the mid-high sound is masked by the bass instrument.

5. The larger the volume of sound, the more likely it is to know the difference in tone: the louder the volume of sound, the better the bass and the better the high-pitched sound.

6. The masking effect is the reason for the decrease in the clarity of the sound due to the large reverberation.

7. The direction perception of sound is perceived as the intensity and level difference of sound  entering two ears of human being.

8. The factors that control the distance perception of sound are reverberation, direct to reflective sound ratio, and frequency characteristics of sound.

9. The sound image is localized on the sound that reaches the human ear first among the several sounds. (Haas effect)
