Review

MIDI Sequencing:

- Recording MIDI data and editing MIDI data

- Requires synthesizer for playback

- Records keyboard/controller performance data, Not audio

- Allows extensive editing: sound changes (synth, sampler, etc), tempo changes, transpose, quantize, note edits, etc

Moore’s Law:

- Computer’s CPU will double in speed about every 18 months

MIDI Hardware:

1. Computers:

- MIDI data needs low CPU load

- Software synths need high CPU load

- At least 1 GB Ram need (especially for software samplers, including “Stream - from - Hard disk" systems)

2. Controllers:

- MIDI keyboards (e.g. Novation Launch key series)

- Transpose switches (e.g. Roli Seaboard)

- Drum pads (e.g. AKAI professional MPD series)

- MIDI-guitars (e.g. Roland GR-55)

- Wind-controllers (e.g. Roland Aerophone AE-10)

3. Synthesizers:

- Keyboard type (e.g. Yamaha Montage 8)

- Module type (e.g. Nord Micro Modular)
