Klanghabitat 'Cassiopeia Plugin': The Simple Yet Powerful Plug-in that Adds Emulated Tube Saturation to Your Mix Making Transients Softer and Fatter

The German high-end audio equipment manufacturer Klanghabitat has announced the release of 'Cassiopeia Plugin' — The simple yet powerful plug-in that adds emulated tube saturation to your mix making transients softer and fatter. With three simple knobs you can easily manipulate your sounds at hand and add lively punch and glue to your mixes. Cassiopeia Plugin is a software emulation version of Klanghabitat’s flagship hardware product ‘Cassiopeia’, a stereo tube saturation unit that uses vacuum tubes to generate overtones and harmonics to create richer and fuller sound. All the emulations of Cassiopeia Plugin are strictly reconstructed by the original Cassiopeia hardware unit.

The range of functions provided by Cassiopeia Plugin is the same as the original Cassiopeia hardware unit except several additional features that the original hardware does not have. These additional features that only Cassiopeia Plugin provides are ‘Oversampling’, ‘Auto Output Gain’, ‘Input Trim’, and ‘Color’ controls. Cassiopeia Plugin provides a total of 7 controls such as,

1) Saturation: This control determines how much the vacuum tubes goes into saturation.

2) Intensity: This control mixes the direct signal (the raw signal) with the saturated signal (the processed signal).

3) Output: This control applies the right signal level for gain matching the entire signal chain and ranges from -12dB to +12dB.

4) Oversampling: This control brings the plugin to operate at 4 times oversampling to minimize all unwanted effects due to aliasing.

5) Auto Output Gain: This control brings the plugin to automatically compensate gain loss due to saturation.

6) Input Trim: This control allows to change the incoming signal by +/- 12dB before reaching the saturation unit.

7) Color: This control changes the behavior on how overtones are created.

To get the most desired result, please keep in mind that the most important control is Saturation control. This control determines how the emulated vacuum tube is reacting to the incoming audio signal. The more this control is turned clockwise, the more the signal is processed. Then, the outgoing signal depends on the position of the Intensity control. The more this control is turned clockwise, the more of the processed signal will be forwarded to the output. In most cases, this control will be used to dial in the exact amount of processed signal to the output. The Output control is used to gain match with devices in the signal chain to operate all elements at their best performing signal levels. As you see the above conceptual diagram of signal flow in Cassiopeia Plugin, the concept of signal flow adopted to this plug-in is simple and clear as summarized by ‘Saturation - Intensity - Output’.

The Klanghabitat official says how Cassiopeia Plugin saturates signals can be found especially in the dynamics of high frequency impulsive transients. Cassiopeia Plugin fattens the transients as shown above. In addition, although Cassiopeia Plugin fattens transients it does not mud up the low-mid and bass frequency areas. The company says Cassiopeia Plugin can reach about 85 - 90% of the sound character of the original Cassiopeia hardware unit. Cassiopeia Plugin brings the unique effects of vacuum tube saturations into your tracks making your sounds warm and more pleasing at an incredibly affordable price.
