Notice that there are times on some tracks where the singer is not singing or the guitar player is not playing and all you hear is unwanted leakage noise. (You can in fact see the noise when looking at the Edit window in Pro Tools.) Let's remove the unwanted audio using Pro Tools. You should do this on as many tracks as you have time for (but at a minimum, do the vocal tracks).

1) Make sure the tracks are not grouped together.

2) Solo your vocal track.

3) While in Slip mode, highlight a region with the Selector tool between transients where there does not seem to be any vocal going on. (see the 'Figure 1' above)

4) Hit loop play and listen to the selection.

You should hear just unwanted audio.

5) Clear the unwanted material.

Choose 'Clear' from the Edit window or Command (⌘)-B. The noise is gone and if you look you can see it is visibly gone.

*Note: You can get the audio back if you need to with the 'Trimmer' tool. Use the Trimmer tool to 'pull' the audio out from the region and drag it back to the next region so they butt up against each other. You can always trim it back because now you have created another region.

Summary of Cleaning a Track using the Clear Command in Pro Tools:

1. Select a region that you want to clean with the Selector tool.

2. Play the selected region to make sure you know what it is you are going to remove.

3. Select 'Clear' from the Edit window to remove the audio in that region.
