Cinematic Composing is the American online educational platform founded in 2016 by esteemed composer Marc Jovani initially started as a community for composers of all levels to learn and grow together and has worked to educate and inspire over 20,000 students worldwide with classes focused on film scoring, orchestral music, sound design and audio post-production. 'Momentum' is the latest offering program of Cinematic Composing started in 2022 and is an intensive six-month online film scoring program based on live classes and taught by some of the top professionals in the film and video games industry. This program is built around a rigorous structure that guides students through the fundamentals of composition, the revision process and working with a live orchestra. Momentum is the first online program allowing students worldwide to experience lots of direct interaction and feedback directly from top industry professionals in Hollywood. The Momentum program is designed to significantly enhance students' skills and prepare students for real-world composition works in the music industry. During the program, students will be offered to work on real-world projects and will have a chance to connect with some of the major film, television, or video game-scoring professionals. The Momentum program provides students with a nurturing space to develop their creative skills as well as invaluable practical tools to help students kick-start their careers. Thanks to a lineup of award-winning instructors, a rigorous syllabus and a nurturing network of peers, more than 150 students have successfully graduated from the Momentum program so far. In order to get into the Momentum program, you need to have a certain skill to be part of Momentum. If you are a beginner and want to join Momentum program, you will get a free 3-month training program called IGNITE prior to joining.
Once enrolled in the Momentum program, students participate in a cohort of 20 students and have access to weekly coaching online live classes that include individualized assignment revisions, masterclasses with industry professionals, score creation for tailored scenes, real-world sessions, etc. Students focus specifically on the essentials of film scoring in the fist half of the program such as learning Pro Tools, understanding the broad strokes of scoring a movie versus scoring a scene. In these first three months, students develop practical skills invaluable to a film-scoring industry career, allowing them to turn concepts into structured creations to picture. Since the Momentum program recognizes that the need for real-world knowledge is essential for success in the industry, students are given opportunities to hear directly from working composers on subjects parallel to composing such as contract negotiations, the revision process, and communicating with directors and producers.
During the Momentum program, students work with top professionals and meet with a composer active within the industry at least once a week. The second half of the program is devoted entirely to Hollywood mentorship, with weekly live scoring-to-picture sessions that include individualized assignment revisions led by renowned composers and producers across numerous genres. In addition to weekly live classes, the Momentum program also offers one-off master instruction led by rotating talent on subjects specific to their niche. These master classes allow students to concentrate on a subject related to their field of interest and learn practical advice from experts in the field.
