Six String Audio, a German audio software developer, has recently announced the release of 'Ultimate Rock Guitar' — The most detailed multi-sample Kontakt library of a custom electric rock guitar to date in the market. Six String Audio has meticulously recorded an Ibanez RG-Series guitar with unparalleled detail, aiming to capture the essential nuances of rock guitar playing and create an almost perfect emulation of a rock guitar. The library features pure direct-in-signal (DI) recordings from the bridge humbucker pickup, allowing you to shape the sound to your taste.
Ultimate Rock Guitar features 23 different articulations with a total of 90+ subarticulations, added by 34 Chord Groups, Special Chords, and further extras, resulting in over 45 GB of sample material recorded from only one pickup — the bridge humbucker pickup. This extensive library is compressed to 24 GB using Native Instruments’ lossless audio compression technology. When developing Ultimate Rock Guitar, Six String Audio prioritized authenticity over automation or quick results. You can play Ultimate Rock Guitar like a synthesizer, but it was basically developed as a scoring tool with the aim of creating deceptively real-sounding guitar tracks. Ultimate Rock Guitar enables users to perform detailed post-editing of MIDI tracks, capturing all the subtle nuances essential for an authentic rock guitar sound.
Ultimate Rock Guitar offers an extensive collection of pre-recorded chord samples, which is why it sounds better, tighter, and much more realistic. Six String Audio recorded all the essential chords for authentic rock guitar tracks. Furthermore, each chord was meticulously captured in detail, with up to 4 velocity layers, upstrokes, various palm mutes, slide-ins, slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs. To complete the chord section, Six String Audio recorded a variety of Special Chords, primarily open-string chords. In total, this amounts to 38 GB of pre-recorded chord samples. The embedded Auto-Chord-Detection algorithm takes care of all the chord work for you. Simply play a chord, and the algorithm will check if a corresponding chord sample exists. If not, it automatically generates a "fake" chord by layering single-shot samples, ensuring smooth and seamless performance. Another unique feature of Ultimate Rock Guitaris its extensive collection of sequence samples. These real patterns and phrases were carefully recorded, split, and mapped, allowing you to use them as short samples in a sequence.
Ultimate Rock Guitar features an advanced Fretboard Monitor that combines the functionality of a traditional fretboard display with guitar tablature, and also presents all playing techniques and ornaments in a detailed and dynamic way. It shows fret numbers, stroke directions, and even ornaments like vibrato, slides (portamento), legato, bends, glissandi, tremolo picking, tapping, unison bends, harmonics, artificial harmonics, dips and dives, and more. Additionally, it displays essential details such as the selected main articulation, sub-articulation, tuning, strings and frets, stroke mode, incoming MIDI notes and velocity, and the used round-robin (random) index.
Fully assignable keyswitches, velocity split keyswitches, and velocity layer mappings give you the flexibility to customize how articulations are mapped and triggered. This enables you to create a setup that perfectly suits your needs. Generally, all articulations, modes, and other settings are controlled or altered via keyswitches/trigger keys. By default, Six String Audio minimized the number of keyswitches, but you can easily recognize or add keyswitches through the instrument’s sub-page. For example, the Auto-Chord-Detection algorithm lets you work without keyswitches for chords, special chords, and octaves. You can adjust keyswitch MIDI note settings, latch mode, and split point settings within the Keyswitch Options and Velocity Mapping pages, and save these settings as presets (nkp files). Ultimate Rock Guitarutilizes three types of keyswitches, each with a slightly different functionality: regular keyswitches, Release-Trigger Keys, and Stop Keys.

By default, Single-Note (Pro) is the Major Articulation/Mode in Ultimate Rock Guitar, featuring the most commonly used articulations and variations. Designed with authentic guitar results in mind, it is the recommended main articulation for your work. Additionally, it makes most keyswitches unnecessary. Single-Note (Pro) is the quickest way to edit an existing MIDI track. Once you are familiar with the velocity ranges, using Single-Note (Pro) along with the Auto-Chord-Detection algorithm will allow you to transform artificial-sounding MIDI tracks into stunning, authentic guitar performances with ease.
