Inouï Samples 'Trombibone': A Kontakt Instrument that Redefines Multiphonics in Brass Performance

The artistically creative and technically innovative French developer of Kontakt instrument, Inouï Samples, has recently announced the release of 'Trombibone'.

Multiphonic sound production—producing more than one pitch simultaneously—has long been a feature of woodwind instruments such as the flute, clarinet, oboe, and bassoon. However, for brass instruments, achieving true multiphonics remained an acoustically impossibility until now.

Enter the Trombibone, a groundbreaking new Kontakt instrument that turns that impossibility into reality by harnessing the principles of physics in service of musical innovation. Developed by Inouï Samples in collaboration with some of France's leading instrument makers, sound technicians, and performers, the Trombibone opens the door to an expansive new world of brass-based multiphonics.

Created with composers in mind, the Trombibone offers a previously unheard palette of sonic textures, dramatically expanding the possibilities for composition and orchestration. It is not just a new instrument—it's a new language for musical expression.

Inouï Samples meticulously recorded an extensive library of mutiphonic sounds under optimal French studio conditions. From this wealth of material, 2,789 unique samples were handpicked and organized into 91 chromatically playable articulations. The result is a deeply expressive and easy-to-use virtual instrument designed to integrate seamlessly into any creative workflow.

For those seeking to move beyond digital sound libraries, the physical Trombibone itself is housed in Paris and is available for in-person or remote recording sessions with some of France's finest brass performers.

The Trombibone represents a significant leap forward in both brass instrument design and sample-based music production, offering artists, composers, and orchestrators an entirely new sound universe to explore.
