Producers

They come in a variety of styles and configurations but can be roughly divided into just a few denominations

 

1. Producer/engineer

2. Producer/songwriter/composer

3. Producer/MIDI-programmer (sometimes a DJ also)

4. Producer/artist

5. Producer/arranger/music director

6. Producer/maestro (especially in orchestral and film music)

7. Producer/financier (or record label executive)

 

 

Note: Some producers adopt a ”passive/organic” stance, allowing recording artists to experiment and develop in the studio. This approach works very well with acts which have a lot of creativity, a strongly defined sound and style, plus self discipline. Acts requiring guidance, direction, development and stylistic definition usually fare better with “take charge” producers, some of whom create all the songs and tracks for their artists.
