Why Use EQ? (1)

Triage (Fixing something that's wrong)

Life is not perfect. Even in the controlled environment of the recording studio, things can and    do go wrong. And, as these things happen, you discover the problems only upon playback. The list of problems is (seemingly) endless. For example:

- After placing your Mic 'just so' in front of the guitar amp, the guitarist moves the amp without telling you

- The trumpet player moved too close (or too far) from where you placed him

- There is hum on the organ's Leslie cabinet that mysteriously started after you did the level check and hit the record button

- The saxophone's keys rattle

- The vocalist develops dry mouth right in the middle of a great take and all sorts of noises start coming from his/her mouth

- There is MIDI clock/time code/click track bleeding onto tracks

- Or simply that most Mics may not "hear" sound the same way your ears do

These are not sounds or effects you want in your mix. Many times an equalizer can be used to help correct the sound so you can use the track you have.
