Audio Transmission System (3)

Three-pin Professional Audio Connector (XLR-type Connector) is mainly used in recording equipment that supports microphone cables and Balanced cables. There are two types of XLR-type connectors: Female and Male, of which the Female connector is connected to the output of the equipment and the Male connector is connected to the input of the equipment. Among the three pins, Pin 1 is soldered to the cable shield, Pin 2 is connected to the cathode wire (“Hot” in polarity lead, usually the wire is red), and Pin 3 is connected to the remaining wire. The connections of this type of conductor are the same for both the Male and the Female type connector.

Stereo type phone plug (a.k.a. TRS plug) is used primarily for stereo headphones or cables that support balanced line levels. For example, in headphones, Tip terminal (T) is soldered to the left channel lead, and Ring terminal (R) is connected to the right channel lead and Sleeve terminal (S) is connected to common lead. In the Balanced line level cable, the Sleeve Terminal (S) is connected to the shield, the Tip Terminal (T) is connected to the "hot" (in polarity) conductor, and the Ring Terminal (R) is connected to the remaining conductor. The Tip of the stereo phone plug supporting the stereo phonejacks in audio equipment such as a mixer sends signals to the input of the audio device, and Ring receives the Return signal from the output of the audio device and the Sleeve makes a role of ground.
