Oscilloscope for Audio Use

The Oscilloscope (or Scope for short) is another of the tools the audio engineer uses to align, diagnose, and repair equipment (the signal generator and AC Volt Meter (ACVM) being the other two). It is a time-based device that can measure and display instantaneous voltage levels with respect to time. It plays a particularly important role in the precise azimuth (phase) alignment of analog and digital tape machines and signal distortion measurements. You will need to set up the controls on the scope to view the signal from the audio source such as CD player, DAT machine, etc.

*An Example of Oscilloscope Setting:

Oscilloscope Control Setting
Power On (Button pressed in)
Horizontal - Time Variable Cal (Clockwise to click)
Horizontal - Time/Div 2 msec
Trigger - Level 0
Trigger - Holdoff (Not on all scopes) Norm (Counterclockwise to click)
Trigger - Coupling AC
Trigger - Source CH 1
Trigger - Slope +
Vertical - CH 1 - Volts/Div inner concentric Cal (Clockwise to click)
Vertical - CH 1 - Volts/Div outer knob 2V
Vertical - CH 1 - AC GND DC switch AC
Vertical - CH 2 - Volts/Div inner concentric Cal (Clockwise to click)
Vertical - CH 2 - Volts/Div outer knob 2V
Vertical - CH 2 - AC GND DC switch AC
