How Do Samplers Work?

- A sampler is nothing more than a digital playback device that is triggered by MIDI.

- Different samples can be assigned to different notes.

- The sampler will "slow down" the sample rate or "speed up" the sample rate to make the same  sample play back on different notes.

- A "Perfect" piano sampled instrument would have samples of all 88 keys at 128 velocities each.

- Creating sampled instruments is a compromise, deciding how few samples you can use and still get reasonable results.
