Acoustic Piano Settings for Recording

 

1. EQ chart for Acoustic Piano recording

Frequency Range Characteristics
Below 50 Hz

Bottom

*Cut this area of frequency using High Pass filter if you don't want rumble low-end resonance

50 - 250 Hz

Warmth

*Boost this area of frequency if you need roundness of acoustic piano sounds (For solo piano)

250 - 1 kHz

Body

*Boost this area of frequency if you need body of acoustic piano sound

*Cut this area of frequency if you don't want muddy sound 

1 - 5 kHz 

Presence

*Boost this area of frequency if you need presence/brightness of piano sound

*Cut this area of frequency if you need smooth piano sound

5 - 8 kHz

Clarity

*Boost this area of frequency if you need clear piano sound and attack

8 kHz ~

Air

*Boost this area of frequency if you want high-frequency piano hiss (including pedal noise)

 

 

 

 

2. Compression settings for Acoustic Piano recording

Attack time

Slow to Fast

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is faster, the attack time is shorter (vice versa).

Release time

Shorter to Longer

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is slower, the release time is longer (vice versa).

Ratio

4:1

*You can adjust ratio setting depend on the dynamics of the song

(More dynamics, higher ratio / Vice versa)

Threshold

-8 dB

*You can lower threshold level if you need more compressed sound of acoustic piano.
