When you re-master older recordings, sometimes you might have to rebalance the stereo image of the track. If you see that one of the meters is constantly showing a higher level than the other and critical listening tells you that the mix is not centered, then you need to re-balance the left and right channels. Let's assume that the right channel appears louder than the left channel in your old record, so let's fix it.

 

 

1) Disable the group called 'Group 1' in the lower left corner window of the Edit window (Figure 1).

(In this article, I am dealing with Pro Tools. See the Figure 1 below.)

2) Move the Right fader down to -4.1 position (example) as shown in Figure 2.
