Conforming Soft Effects and Ambiences

Assume that you are going to conform the sounds of the trucks, cars and the highway in your TV commercial project. These SFX are usually catgegorized as soft effects or ambiences, becuase they do not have to be perfectly synchronized. They are broad in nature and the placement is more about getting the "feel" of the sound to match the picture, rather than synchronizing a particular sound event to a specific frame address.

Aligning soft effects and ambiences is not that hard. In reality, however, you could have done it without the location numbers by placing them in SLIP mode of Pro Tools and nudging them until each effect sounded right. It gets more complicated with hard effects. Most likely, you will find a sound effect that contains part of what you are looking for but it won't fit exactly with the image you're working with. You will need to either edit or layer various sounds together until you get the sound you're looking for. That's a part of what is called sound design.
