A Brief on Audio Post Production

If you are like most people in the United States, you probably go to the movies regularly. Movies are a great form of entertainment. So is television. And the DVD is, bringing the theater experience practically into our homes. And how about those commercials that got you to want to watch in the first place? When we watch a film or video or commercial, we are not only seeing the images, but also hearing the sound that goes with them. Most of us don't give much thought to the audio we are hearing. We don't see (or hear) the incredible amount of effort that goes into making a soundtrack. It just seems to fit so well. That "fit" is no accident. It takes a lot of people a lot of time to put together a soundtrack for a film or video. The part of the audio world that specializes in soundtrack production is called audio post production. It's a very large part of the audio engineering industry, employing many more skilled audio people per project than any music album. Try this: next time you go to the movies, stay and watch the credit roll at the end of the film and count the number of jobs related to audio and the people involved. It is not uncommon for a feature film to involve the skills of 30 audio people or more. In a nutshell, there is work out there, and quite a bit of it.
