Regarding Panning Effect

 

Panning involves moving a signal from one side of the stereo field to the other. Usually, an instrument is placed in a fixed position relative to the other sounds in a mix, but occasionally it is desirable to add the excitement of a moving sound source. Automated panning programs not only provide left/right panning effects, but also more sophisticated "rotary" movements. As a result, the automated panning will add dynamic movement to the instruments in your mix. The quality of the panning effect is dependent on the spectral content of the signal and will be different for different instruments and sounds. A recording engineer can decide to place sounds virtually anywhere and move them at will during the song. While this can be done to excess, when done with taste, the panning effect can bring a heightened level of interest to a mix. It's all in the panning.
