The Moral of Working Method in Mixing

 

You probably have experienced some of the mistakes that you should avoid during your mixing. Now, the question is: what is the correct way of working? There are many, and every audio engineer has his or her own personal working method. What doesn't change — if you are to be professional about your work — is this: You must be aware at all times where all your documents are; You should label each file properly (generic names such as "Audio-01" are useless and asking for trouble); You should archive and backup all your documents (if, for example, you are asked to retrieve a certain session, master tape, etc. at any moment, you should be able to do it on the fly); and you should have other resources at hand that you can use to your advantage, in case you run into problems (e.g. if a hard drive dies all of a sudden, you have a second drive you can count on).
