Making Your Mix Sound Like The Original

 

Making your mix sound like someone else's mix is not easy and requires time and effort. It takes a lot of listening. To do this task, listen to the original by soloing the original mix track, and then un-solo and mute the original mix track and work on the new tracks until you think you have a sound that is similar to the original. Then go back to the original track and listen to it again. Then go back again to your mix and listen to it. Don't try and grasp the mix as a whole, instead focus on one instrument or group at a time and listen through the mix to those individual elements. Then go to your session and try and recreate that sound. You may not be able to get a perfect match if the types of processing gears and plug-ins that was used on the original mix is not the same as what you have available, but you will get close.
