- In general, solo instruments can be treated the same as Vocals.

 

- Be aware, however that if you use heavy amounts of compression, say past 5 dB, the body of the sound will be affected as well as the peaks.

 

- This can cause noticeable changes in the balance of the sound's overtones.

 

- That's not necessarily good or bad, more a matter of personal preference.
