Synthesizer: On-Board Effect Processor

1. The Japanese synthesizer manufacturer 'Korg' was the first company to install the effector on synthesizers. In the early days of synth effects, the chorus was the only one. At that time, the reverb was a bulky spring reverb that was too big to fit into the synthesizer. However, since emerging of the digital era in 1980s, effects such as Chorus and Reverb could been built into the synthesizer.

2. From this point on, effectors built into the synthesizer were extended to the final stage of sound creation, unlike the past functions that simply decorated sounds. The effect variables could be controlled by the MIDI controllers to allow for a variety of modulations, so the synthesizer patch contents of one voice contained the effect variables.

3. Korg built a number of types of digital effectors into the synthesizers to produce a unique sound. 'Roland' had built-in effects of Chorus, Reverb and Delay, but companies such as 'Yamaha' and 'Ensoniq' had more diverse effects built into synthesizers. Whatever the effect built in the synthesizer is, it is today's reality that 'Sound Editing' ends only if you understand and use various on-board effects appropriately.

4. The importance of the effectors built into the synthesizer is even greater during the recording process. Synthesizer's On-Board Effects Processor has become an integral part of today's recordings, as the digital processing of the sound has increased. In particular, the effectors of the built-in synthesizer could be much more free from noise than when using an external effectors connected to the synthesizer. The reason is that the sound of the synthesizer is connected to the external effector, and the noise is generated through the external effector's A-D and D-A processes, but the on-board effect processor do not need to go through the A-D and D-A processes again because the effects are processed in the digital signal state inside the synthesizer.
